Blog 1: What Is Globalization? — HE ZHINA
1. Summary
After reading “What Is Globalization?” by Roland Robertson and Kathleen E. White, I learned that globalization means people and countries around the world are becoming more connected. It is not only about business and trade. It is also about culture, technology, travel, and communication.
Today, we can easily learn about other countries through the internet and social media. For example, we can watch foreign movies, listen to music from other countries, and talk to people who live far away. Many products are also made in one country and sold in another.
However, globalization does not always bring good results for everyone. Some people and countries can get more opportunities, but others may have difficulties. Different people also have different opinions about globalization.
I think globalization makes the world more connected, but it also brings some problems.
2. What I Learned
Before this class, I thought globalization was mostly about business and money. Now I understand that it is also part of our daily lives.
As a Chinese student studying in South Korea, I can see globalization around me. Korean dramas, music, and beauty products are popular in China. In Korea, I can also find Chinese food and Chinese content online. We can learn about other cultures without traveling to those countries.
I also learned that people do not have to become the same just because they share things from other countries. People can enjoy foreign music or movies while keeping their own culture and traditions.
In my opinion, globalization has both good and bad sides. It helps us learn new things and understand other people. However, it can also make it harder for some local businesses and cultures to compete with popular international products.
3. Questions for Discussion
My question is: Does globalization bring more benefits or more problems?
I think globalization gives people more choices. We can buy products from different countries, learn about new cultures, and communicate with people around the world.
However, not everyone gets the same benefits. Some people have more opportunities than others, and small local businesses may find it difficult to compete with large international companies.
I think globalization is an important part of modern life, but we should also pay attention to its negative effects. I would like to know what other students think about this topic and how globalization has changed their lives.
